Data Center Services

A centralized IT environment with a shared infrastructure, fixed asset costs transformed into variable cost, a compute-now service model. All of these help describe the shift in technology deployment occurring across the globe. Mental Model is positioned to help you with that transformation. Mental Model takes the best attributes of midrange server, mainframe, applications, and web hosting to create powerful integrated solutions that will keep pace with your growth and keep business moving forward.

Data Center Services is a streamlined, common hosting environment that sets the stage for the virtualized and utility services the market seeks to fully implement. At its core, Data Center Services represents a suite of hosting offerings Client can employ to satisfy business requirements, or as building blocks to a truly enterprise IT environment. The Data Center Services consist of the following:

    1. Managed Server Services

Data Center Modernization Services

Data Center Modernization Services including strategy uses a multistep approach. This approach consists of transformation paths of Migrate and Manage, Consolidate, Automate Operations, Utility Services, and Virtual Service. Mental Model Data Center Modernization strategy project can use one or all four paths based on client requirements. There is no single off-the-shelf solution that will meet all requirements. Mental Model provides a practical evolution path based on our continuum of service offerings and roadmap. The first two steps enable a solid service delivery foundation based on the key transition and transformation activities and deliverables.

It consists of the following packaged services:

  • Transition Services
  • Infrastructure Rationalization Services
  • Study Services
  • Design Services
  • Construction Services
  • Implementation Services

Transition Services are an integrated set of processes and professional personnel that assist in transitioning/migrating a client’s infrastructure into a hosting center. Mental Model uses proven procedures and processes developed and used in thousands of successful systems and environment transitions/migrations. Mental Model provides these services using its extensive technical and business expertise. The provision of Transition Services is based on specific availability requirements and migration requirements.

Infrastructure Rationalization Services are an integrated set of processes, professional personnel, and enabling technologies that are deployed at Mental Model Service Management Centers – large enterprise scale data centers – Mental Model Service Delivery Centers, or within your own data center. Infrastructure Rationalization Services use a structured approach that applies business and technical knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to create and implement an agile enterprise strategy. This agile strategy aligns the technical compute infrastructure to business goals while maximizing resource usage and technology and minimizing risk and asset expenditure. The infrastructure rationalization strategy is developed in close partnership with client  to make certain that current business practices and key technical knowledge are used.

Infrastructure Rationalization Blueprint is an Mental Model methodology providing a guideline to consistently deliver infrastructure rationalization services. The Infrastructure Rationalization Blueprint methodology applies proven strategies, processes, tools, and templates necessary to deliver a transformation strategy using a five-step approach. The Infrastructure Rationalization Blueprint consists of, Quick-Hit Diagnostics, Study, Design, Construct, and Implementation services.

Quick-Hit Diagnostics provide a high-level analysis for consolidating a client’s compute environment and the possible savings to be gained. The assessment targets total cost of ownership and identifies cost reductions in the areas of resource costs, capital expenditures, and/or outsourcing managed services. Quick-Hit Diagnostics consists of gathering Client’s information and analyzing the information for transformation opportunities to define scope, develop the preliminary solution, and present findings to Client Name.

Study Services include gathering and refining client infrastructure information, developing a baseline of the client’s present mode of operation (PMO), analyzing transformation data, architecting to the future mode of operation (FMO), and proposing transformation recommendations by Solution Sets to identify cost and value to the client. Solutions Sets are elements within Client’s enterprise that are recommended for transformation. The elements could be applications, database, hardware components, or other infrastructure components. Also included in the recommendations can be shared infrastructure resources and services such as the following:

  • Storage Area Network (SAN)
  • Network Attached Storage (NAS)
  • Centralized backups
  • Centralized monitoring

Design Services include processes to plan the business and technical designs for transforming a client’s compute environment. The design planning process provides a guide to design a client’s future mode of operation (FMO) environment by categorizing and prioritizing the design of solution sets. Some solution sets may be considered “Quick Hits” and have a high priority requiring minimal effort and risk and high return. These types of solution sets can be the “Fast-Track” to progress through the Design, Construct, and Implementation phases to create a quick Return on Investment (ROI).

Business Design Process is used to design the high-level business plan and architecture, finalize the transformation strategy, and determine the measurement criteria for transformation.

Technical Design Process is used to define, analyze, design, and produce the new detailed Future Mode of Operation (FMO) environment. The documented technical designs for the FMO environment and/or solution sets from this process should include a solution architecture, detailed engineering documentation, requirements for hardware and software, test plans, and cost of construction and migration services.

Construction Services consist of constructing the FMO environment and/or solution sets. This can include the installation of new servers, and complete or partial replacement of existing servers. The construction phase may include planning, data center preparation, development and execution of training, configuration of platforms and infrastructure components, and testing the environment.

Implementation Services include testing and implementation of the compute environment and/or Client solution sets. The implementation services scope and costs are defined and validated during the Consolidation, Design, and Construct phases. The Implementation Service consists of three phases: Planning, Testing, and Execution.
